Cardano
Cardano is a decentralized blockchain platform designed for building and executing smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps). Developed by IOHK (Input Output Hong Kong), it utilizes a unique proof-of-stake consensus mechanism called Ouroboros, aimed at providing a sustainable and scalable blockchain solution. Launched in 2017, Cardano is noted for its research-driven approach, relying heavily on academic peer review and formal methods to develop its technology. The platform is structured in layers, separating the settlement layer (for transactions) from the computational layer (for smart contracts), which enhances flexibility and security. Its native cryptocurrency is ADA, which is used for transaction fees and staking within the network. Cardano aims to provide a more secure and efficient environment for the development of decentralized applications, while also focusing on interoperability and regulatory compliance.
